BBC Life On Earth Disc 2: The Conquest of the Waters (1979)

Backbones enable fish to grow large and move at speed. Today they rule the seas,from the sun-lit world of the coral reefs to the black near-freezing dpeths of the ocean where they communicate with luminous signals. Many undertake large annual journeys scross the coeans. Some even swim up into fresh water to spawn - and there to die.

Peter's DVD rating:
David Attenborough explores the lives of fish. This is one of the weaker episodes in the series. Visually, the age of this series shows in some of the murky underwater footage. The content is also sub-par; most of the topics are familiar to elementary school children. Even the salmon scenes are mediocre; the electric eel is not even filmed underwater.
