Structure of a phytochrome.

   A phytochrome consists of two proteins each with two domains.
<P>
   One  domain  contains  the  pigment  chromophore  and functions as the
   photoreceptor.
<P>
   The  other  domain  has protein kinase activity that triggers cellular
   responses.
