object, then send adventitious roots to the soil.
<BR><LI> Buttress  roots  (ceiba  tree)  are  also  adventitious; providing
support via thick buttresses.
<BR><LI> Pneumatophores  (mangroves)  project  above  the  water  to obtain
oxygen in waterlogged soil of swamps.
